Any advice on a mentorship program helping you transition into tech lead?

Have you ever thought about becoming a tech lead? It’s not just about knowing your stuff technically – you also need to be a good leader and communicator. It’s a big step, right?
I’ve heard that mentorship programs can really help with that transition. Has anyone here been through one? What was it like? Any tips for someone who’s thinking about making the leap?

 There’s no direct content about a tech lead mentor but I’m sure if you apply or contact them directly, they’ll have something. Seems like it’s tailored to your technical level so would make sense.

Hi @tanweer, I took an LTI Project Managment course last year, so not a Tech Lead one. Some of the course content I already knew but there was some things I learned which has helped me with my goal of going from Frontend dev to PM roles.

My course was broken down into a workshop day and followed by a 1-2-1 mentor session. We also had break-out sessions where you join with others on the course to figure out tasks. Those were fun! Anyways, it was easy to do some reading and get the general concepts before diving deeper into particular knowledge gaps.

For me I’m always looking for new ways to learn so the 1-2-1 was very good.

Absolutely, becoming a tech lead is a significant transition! It’s not just about technical expertise; leadership and communication skills are crucial. Mentorship programs can be incredibly valuable, providing guidance and support as you navigate this change.

Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

@sophialong that’s right! Sharpening your communication skills is as crucial as a tech savvy person. Effective leadership in tech starts with clear, compelling communication. Sadly not many tech people realise that. #TechLeadership #CommunicationSkills
